Amateur Spirit is a project to offer outstanding spirits selected transparently by groups of skilled spirits amateurs in blind tastings – which are video recorded and shared with you.

For the very first edition, the amateur jury consisted of Pietro Caputo, Bertrand Atlan, and Nicholas Barker. Host Aurélien Touzé found four Armagnacs from small unknown producers for the jury to blindly taste. He facilitates the tastings but does not participate in the selection.

Each bottling, a diverse jury samples the same spirit from different producers, discussing and evaluating them without knowing details. The tasting session is recorded and edited as a 20 minute film, so that everyone can join in afterwards and see how and why the selection was made.

After blind tasting, the jury selects the one exceptional, characterful spirit that stands out through consensus. Bottles feature the names of the amateur jury and go on sale for a limited time. Here is the first Amateur Spirit bottling.

The goal is to share the enthusiasm of spirits amateurs like Pietro, Bertrand, and Nicholas in choosing special bottles – amateurs, not professionals.
